TWD – Women’s Edition: Heather Sharp

About Me
Five years ago, I never would have imagined that serving coffee to my now boss would become the first step in a career in financial planning. What began as an opportunity to move on from hospitality quickly turned into a defining moment. I stepped into a completely unfamiliar role within a financial planning practice – and it changed the direction of my life.
I started as a receptionist, eager to learn and determined to grow. Drawing on my background in communication and client service, I immersed myself in my role, absorbing as much knowledge as I could. That curiosity and commitment to development led me to progress into an Associate Adviser role, where I continue to build my technical expertise and practical experience through client meetings.
Alongside my professional growth, I began my formal qualifications in financial planning in 2022. Since then, I’ve completed my Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma, and I’m now just one unit away from finishing my Master’s degree. I’m also undertaking my Professional Year, supported by highly experienced mentors whose guidance has played a significant role in shaping both my skills and confidence.
I’m driven by a genuine passion for learning and continuous improvement. Expanding my knowledge – both personally and professionally – allows me to deliver greater value to the clients I work with. Helping individuals and families reduce financial stress and put clear, practical strategies in place so they can live the lives they aspire to is what motivates me every day.
I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities that have led me here and look forward to soon supporting clients as a qualified Financial Adviser – helping them gain clarity, confidence, and momentum toward their long-term goals.

What does “Live Well” look like for you on an ordinary Tuesday, not a highlight-reel day?
For me, “Live Well” on a regular Tuesday is getting up early for a Pilates, grabbing my almond latte, enjoying a nourishing breakfast, and then feeling fresh as I start my workday. Simple habits that make the day feel good.
What’s your biggest goal at the moment?
Right now, my biggest focus professionally is finishing the final stages of my Master of Financial Planning and completing my provisional year. I’m incredibly close, so 2026 is all about ticking off those last steps and fully stepping into my role as an adviser.
Personally, my goal is to be more present and intentional with my time and creating space to travel, continue building strength, explore new places, and make meaningful memories along the way.
What money habit do you have now that your younger self would be quietly impressed by?
A money habit I have now that my younger self would be quietly impressed by is having a clear cashflow system in place. I’ve structured things so each financial goal has its own “box” to tick, and I always know exactly where my money is going. It’s all automated, which means every pay cycle runs smoothly without me having to overthink it – it just happens in the background.
What’s a belief about money, success, or “having it all” that you’ve consciously let go of?
One belief I’ve consciously let go of is that having it all at once is what proves you’re successful and will be happy. Over time, I’ve realised that real success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience, consistency, and a willingness to put in the work. The most meaningful achievements are usually the ones you’ve worked hardest for and the journey is the best part.
When life feels full, noisy, or financially overwhelming, what helps you come back to centre?
When life feels full, noisy, or financially overwhelming, I come back to centre by simplifying things. I’ll usually start by moving my body or getting outside to reset and ground myself. From there, I focus on what’s actually within my control in that moment. I’ll make a list, prioritise it, and work through it step by step. Slowly ticking things off and creating clarity again.

Sue and I have had various meetings with Dawn and have found her to be very professional and would like to thank her for providing us with great financial advice.
The ability to engage on a fee for service basis was clear from the beginning. We appreciated this model as it allowed us to receive the level of advice we were looking for and we know that if we want to return for more advice once our position changes we can easily contact Cara again.

Her ability to simplify complex financial concepts is nothing short of magical. It’s as if she has a superpower for turning intimidating jargon into friendly advice that anyone can understand. Dawn’s enthusiasm for her work is contagious, making even the most daunting financial discussions feel engaging and empowering.
What truly makes Dawn stand out is her incredible care for her clients—both human and furry! She has looked after my dog on several occasions, proving that her nurturing nature extends beyond finances. Knowing that I can trust her with my pup while I focus on my financial goals speaks volumes about her character.
Since working with her, I’ve gained not only confidence in my financial planning but also a true sense of excitement about my future. She has helped me create a plan that feels not just achievable but inspiring.
If you’re looking for a financial advisor who combines expertise, warmth, and a personal touch, look no further than Dawn Thomas. She’s a remarkable professional and an even more amazing person. I’m so grateful to have her in my corner!

I have had multiple successful Insurance Claims with Robin where his knowledge, expertise, and understanding of the Insurance company requirements made the process smoother and stress free.
Robin is a wonderful advisor and person who I would highly recommend. I look forward to continuing to work with Robin in the future.
They have both been so friendly and have catered to our every need, and have been very encouraging throughout the whole process.
Thank you for all your hard work and for giving us peace of mind. 😃
My partner and I were helped by Robin and Cara who are both friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. They helped my partner and I to clearly define our goals and set the checkpoints for achieving a number of small and large financial objectives within the next decade.
After the initial consultation process, we dealt mostly with Robin as Cara took maternity leave.
Robin is a pleasure to work with and he is always happy to explain complex ideas and strategies to ensure that we fully understand our path.
Thank you, Robin and Cara, for your help and guidance.
In my opinion, Dawn is the gold standard in serving and delivering promises to her clients. She is a beacon to her clients and a shining light in our profession.
Someone who deeply cares for her family. A genuine person who supports her peers in a very challenging arena.
I highly recommend Dawn to anyone who values professional Financial Advice with a uniquely human touch!
I found TWD and Cara’s services invaluable as they saved days of my own time reviewing insurance documents, investment options, etc., while providing me with the confidence that an expert has reviewed all the options to meet my goals.
It has been during the more challenging times that I feel TWD and Troy have shone. During these times they have put me first and taken actions that hurt their fees taken but was good for me as a client. They have been proactive in both good and changing times.
I don’t believe there is any higher praise than providing good returns and putting me before their own short term needs.
