Migrant Money Matters

Everyone should be able to access the knowledge they need to make the best financial decisions for their families – regardless of where they were born, or what language they speak.

Here at The Wealth Designers, we’re passionate about empowering and educating women to take control of their finances and live lives of money and meaning.

That’s why our Senior Wealth Adviser Dawn Thomas was pleased to deliver the ‘Foundational Superannuation’ session at a recent Migrant Money Matters workshop. Created by Grace Mugabe, founder of Financially Empowered, the financial literacy program is specifically designed for migrant and culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) women in Western Australia.

Confidence, connection and community

Grace understands that financial literacy isn’t just about education – it’s also about confidence, connection, and being supported by others in your community.

In her workshops, women from different cultures, backgrounds and life experiences come together to learn about topics including money mindsets, budgeting and saving, safe lending and financial rights, managing financial hardship, superannuation, financial goal-setting and how culture influences money management.

These in-person events include free childcare, accessible venues, locally relevant information and interpreters where needed – reducing the barriers to attendance so more women can participate, learn and feel confident managing their money.

Creating real change

Dawn welcomed the opportunity to talk to the group about superannuation – something that’s an important part of building their financial future here in Australia.

As she said in her LinkedIn post:

“There was laughter, tons of questions, shared experiences and deep engagement. As someone who spends a lot of time talking about superannuation, it is always special to have a room completely locked into a conversation about my fav topic.”

This workshop series was funded through a grant from the Future2 Foundation, helping bring an important community-led financial education program to life.
